Frequently Asked Questions

  • Proctors can be: a supervisor, HR rep, or education rep at your current company; anyone who holds a current CMCN certification; or anyone who offers proctoring services—a local library, community college, or testing center; proctors must physically stay with the candidate during the exam. We also have remote proctoring available and offer the exam at our annual conferences for an additional $25. You can access the proctor form here.

  • We send out exam results via email within two business days of receiving the exam. Exams taken by computer we receive as soon as you finish it. For paper exams, it just depends on when it gets back to us (they are sent via FedEx, so maybe about a week).

  • Yes, we allow for one retest in the event of a failed examination. You do have to pay the $250 sitting fee again. If you fail the exam a second time, you must wait twelve months to try to sit the exam another time.

  • No, while AAMCN and ABMCN are sister associations, they are two separate organizations. No AAMCN membership is required for an ABMCN certification.

  • You have the option to retain your credential in an Emeritus capacity. The one-time fee for Emeritus status is $95 for all CMCNs and CMCPs. The Emeritus credential does not expire and does not need to be renewed. Please email jbeilhart@abmcn.org for more information.
